I was heavily involved in sports as a kid and throughout college. I never had to think about fitness, or exercise, or even eating healthy. I showed up, somebody told me what to do, and I did it. I was a hard worker and so that coaching model always worked well and in my favor.

Fast forward a bunch of years…nobody holds “mom practices”, and I’m left to my own devices to figure out what’s necessary for my heallth wellness. Perhaps not the best scenario for success.

I’ve tried all the things, and although I still love and thrive under a coaching model, it comes with a price-tag far greater than 3rd grade ball.

In an effort to prove to myself I can do something active, and stick to it, I’ve begun some very, very basic practices.

#1 – I do 10 pushups a day. That’s it. When I first started this, it was hard by #4. That’s embarrassing, but it’s real. After a couple weeks, 10 became easy and on good days I even sneak a few extras into this little routine. You might think this is silly (I often do)…but it’s about creating a habit and discipline.

#2 – for the summer, I committed to walking 1- mile/day for 100 days. Again, a very small commitment but when juggling 1,000 things, not always easy to fit into the schedule. So, it’s another building block. Some days I don’t get to sneak away for a walk, but it’s easy to “make-up” the next day and do 2 miles. Again, it seems trivial, but it’s more about proving to myself I can find a way to do SOMETHING consistently.

What about you? What small habits do you work to fit into your busy schedule in the way of health and wellness.

‘ve been sharing my month read-list for 2023, hoping that by doing so, you’ll help to hold me accountable to reading one book a month this year. Here is June’s pick + the recap list for the year.

I read “It’s Your Ship” early in my corporate career, a book so highly recommended, the company’s President purchased for every one of the employees. It’s been a long time since I’ve read this and I’m excited to brush up on some of the principles that once transformed my mindset around leadership and what it truly looks like.

It might be a Midwest thing…but as soon as the snow is gone until it returns, it’s SANDAL season! Sandals are such a big thing here, that the commitment may require socks on extra-chilly mornings. I’m pretty sure Minnesota isn’t known for fashion trends…and after that previous sentence, I’m guessing you’ll fully agree with me.

Sandals that are comfortable, don’t require a chiropractic adjustment, and go-with-the-flow of the busy summer activities are my go-tos! What are your favorite sandals?

Does your house smell like kids, dogs, or this morning’s bacon? You won’t believe how simple it is make your house smell amazing with this little trick!

Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a cotton ball. Pop that cotton ball into the dust cup of your trusty vacuum. As you start vacuuming, the airflow will spread the scent of the essential oil. It’s like having a mini diffuser right there in your cleaning routine!

If your vacuum doesn’t have a dust cup, mix a few drops of essential oils into a 1/2c or  so of baking soda. Sprinkle the mixture over your carpet, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, grab your vacuum again and suck up the scented baking soda. Voila! You can thank me later!
